From Ontario, Mundial Mundial will welcome two projects. First up is the Jeremy Ledbetter Trio, who promise to elevate any crowd. This electrifying trio is made up of pianist Jeremy Ledbetter, drummer Larnell Lewis – who can be seen playing alongside Snarky Puppy and Joy Lapps – and renowned electric bassist Rich Brown.
Then, Les Rats d’Swompe, a group that fuses rock, traditional music, pop and punk, bringing Franco-Ontarian folklore to life in a high-energy show filled with call-and-response songs, traditional fiddling and a lot of dancing.
Magdala, a Haitian-Montrealer singer drawing her inspiration from Gospel, Zouk, Kompa, Dancehall and R&B, will hypnotize the audience with her soulful voice.
The instrumental trio Misc explores surprising paths of jazz, nourishing it with electro, pop, rock and eclectic samples. Building on the success of their debut album Partager l’ambulance, the trio have announced a new album in autumn 2024.
Mexican artist NUNNE offers contemporary Latin music with haunting acoustic melodies, and a strong storytelling essence thanks to her poignant, story-rich lyrics. She will also be releasing a new album in autumn 2024.
Ron Artis II is an award-winning songwriter from Hawaii. With his captivating guitar playing and magnetic soul voice, we are very excited to present his show!
Montreal-based Venezuelan artist JACE Carillo, a recent performer at Fuego Fuego, is sure to get people dancing at the new late-night showcases – details of which will be announced in September – with his music exploring the sounds of electro-pop and contemporary folktronica, redefining the concept of global music.
Innu multidisciplinary artist Soleil Launière, recently unveiled as one of the Révélations Radio-Canada 2024, will also be performing at Mundial Montréal. Combining vocal harmonies and strong percussion with performance art, she will transport the audience into a deep and gripping experience. This official showcase is presented by Radio-Canada and the Indigenous Sounds Series.
Sounds from Spain will showcase Spain’s Laura Low, one of the most versatile artists on today’s music scene, boldly blending genres from pop and Canarian folk with R&B and classical music.
In collaboration with the Association des Producteurs & Éditeurs en Musique d’Occitanie (APEM OC), we are delighted to welcome the Occitan project Rabie Houti Band, whose music is a fusion of traditional Algerian violin, blues guitars, modern percussion, bass and powerful synthesizers.
The Programming Committee, an essential pillar
Each year, the programming committee is made up of new members, ensuring that it always represents an accurate and up-to-date picture of the industry. This year, the committee analyzed over 400 applications, a colossal task that we’d like to acknowledge! We’ll be announcing the new members very soon!
Mundial Montréal is a showcase for the best in global music, where projects are rooted in cultural traditions, identities and historical legacies. Each of the showcasing groups has a unique background in which a plurality of identities converges, giving rise to unique musical creations.
