Land acknowledgment

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

Mundial Montréal

Mundial Montréal acknowledges that our event and activities take place on unceded Indigenous territory. We recognize the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation as the custodians of the lands and waters on which we gather today. Tiohtiá:ke / Montréal has historically been a gathering place for many First Nations, and today, a diverse Indigenous population, along with many other peoples, call it home.

It is with respect for the past, present, and future that we acknowledge the ongoing relationships between Indigenous Peoples and other members of the Montréal community. We strive to learn from the traditional caretakers of Tiohtiá:ke / Montréal and continue growing together as a community, with reverence for the land and in honour of the spirits that unite us to celebrate music, culture, and art.

We also wish to acknowledge the solidarity between Indigenous resistance and the struggles for Black liberation, and to affirm that decolonization must also involve supporting the lives and liberation of Black people.
