Mundial Montréal visits Toronto!
Find out more about our activities at the International Indigenous Music Summit 2024!
Mundial Montréal will be in Toronto from June 10 to 14 to take part in the International Indigenous Music Summit (IIMS). The team is very proud to once again be part of this great gathering, which in addition to being the only global event dedicated to raising awareness, sharing resources and creating opportunities for the indigenous music community, represents a rich opportunity for exchange and for creating and strengthening the ties that unite different communities.
Three Quebec-based artists to perform at IIMS 2024
On June 11 and 13, Maten, Siibii and Matiu will take to the stage for the official showcases presented by IIMS.
Maten is an Innu band from Mani-utenam on Quebec’s North Shore, anchored between the shores of the St. Lawrence and the boreal forest. The band’s music has a distinctly alternative, festive folk-rock sound. One of the dominant characteristics of the project is the commitment of their lyrics to their community, their language and their Innu roots. The lyrics convey their values and culture, and their pride in their identity, while the lyrics are strong and direct, looking to the future but also very realistic and dealing with the difficulties that communities still have to face.
⏰ Tuesday, June 11, 7pm @ Lula Lounge
Queer, non-binary and Cree singer-songwriter Siibii hails from the Cree community of Mistissini, Quebec, and now resides in Montreal. The project is the grand prize winner of Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program 2021 and a finalist for CBC Searchlight 2022.
⏰ Thursday June 13 at 2pm @ 80A Studios
Matiu hails from the North Shore and is one of those artists who’s the opposite of a glitzy artist: plain and quiet, he’s a musical blend of Neil Young and ZZ Top. What he calls his “bipolar folk” blends into a music of everyday facts that seeks to understand human relationships, identity and the world.
⏰ Thursday, June 13, 7 p.m @ TD Music Hall
