An Eclectic Selection of Global and Canadian Sounds

Following the unveiling of the first 8 artists back in July, including groove&, Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, Le Diable à Cinq, Lengaïa Salsa Brava, Moneka Arabic Jazz, Nohe & Sus Santos, Polky and Symbio, we are announcing 11 new names today.

Mundial Montréal’s second batch of artists consist of Afrikana Soul Sister, a trio that aims to bring people together through creatively combining sounds influenced from their West African and North American traditions. Indigenous Experimental artist Ánnámáret (Nordic Bridges) creates dreamscapes by fusing traditional Sámi vocal music with ancient sound of jouhikko, the Finnish bowed lyre. AySay (Nordic Bridges) melts singer Luna Ersahin’s Danish and Kurdish/Turkish culture together. Bab L’Bluz is part of Morocco’s nayda youth movement and sings freedom songs in the Darija dialect. É. T.É offers a very current and dynamic vision of traditional Quebec music. JINJ is an Armobeat pioneer, fusing Armenian folk with urban sounds. Newfoundland’s Ukrainian band, Kubasonics (Music Newfoundland and Labrador) combine top-flight musicianship spiced with quirky humor. Maria and the Band play folk music from northeastern Brazil with influences ranging from blues to arabesque. Pierre Kwenders is a Congolese Canadian musician, songwriter and DJ who weave tales from memories of the past, sketches of his hometown and reflections on the future. PIQSIQ is Inuk duo Inuksuk Mackay and Tiffany Kuliktana Ayalik’s musical project where they fuse throat-singing with new technologies to create haunting soundscapes. The Brooks were named “the best kept secret of Canadian funk” by the La Presse, this group of accomplished musicians are well known on the soul/funk scene across the Atlantic.
