Mundial Montreal is pleased to collaborate with Centre Phi to present Tanya Tagaq live in concert!
A real treat for Montreal audiences, she is bringing her unique, mesmerizing show to one of Montreal’s finest high-end venues, Centre Phi, on Saturday November 8th.
Unnerving and exquisite, Tagaq’s unique vocal expression may be rooted in Inuit throat singing but her music has as much to do with electronica, industrial and metal influences as it does with traditional culture.
On Monday, August 25th, the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, accompanied by Forshpil, created a truly magical experience for a packed Sala Rossa. The Balkan-gypsy-klezmer-punk-party super group finished their set playing in the middle of the crowd, before putting down their instruments in the center of the room, linking arms in what became a full-room group hug, singing a song together to create an unforgettable moment for all involved.
What a wild and crazy night of dancing and partying!
We are extremely excited to announce that this year’s Aboriginal Sounds series will feature 3 unique female voices: Kinnie Starr, Beatrice Deer and Cris Derksen will be performing at Mundial Montreal in November!
Mundial is pleased to reveal the first set of artists who will be performing at our fourth edition this November at the first ever joint Mundial Montreal + CINARS showcase!
The showcase will feature a truly mind-blowing lineup comprised of what Rolling Stone dubbed “Ukrainian folkdrone Björkpunk quartet” DahkaBrahka, an excerpt from interactive musical/visual installation project Revolución Perpetua result of a collaboration between Battle of Santiago and Patricio Davila, iconic Mozambiquan singer Chico Antonio, and exuberant violin folk experimentalist Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything. We are extremely proud to present this lovely retrospective video featuring interviews, live footage and lots of dancing from Mundial Montreal #3! They say a photo is worth 1,000 words, so a short video…well, it’s worth a whole lot more! If you haven’t been to Mundial yet, this will give you a sense of what all the buzz is about. Share it with anybody who might be curious about us!
That’s right! We threw quite a party in Toronto at Lula Lounge during CAPACOA. We sent a yellow school bus packed with about 40 delegates to the Lula Lounge for dinner and some showcase magic. The night featured stellar performances from latin jazz queen Eliana Cuevas, Italian singer-songwriter Daniela Nardi, Middle Eastern dub troubadours Jaffa Road, soulful songstress Malika Tirolien, and flamenco guitarist Jorge Miguel.

We’re back in Montreal after a great time in New York City. APAP was packed with opportunities to hear great music, see completely incredible performances and connect with other industry folks. It was great to see old friends and make new ones, and discover more incredible music!
Friday January 10th, 2014 @ Drom
The evening kicked off with a cocktail reception hosted alongside our friends at Native America North. Dozens of industry professionals came to schmooze before the music started. The show began began with innovative fusion artist Gurpreet Chana presenting his new show TABLIX: an integration of tabla and technology. Check out the highlight:
Gurpreet was followed by the playful cinematic textures of Montreal-based instrumental group Sagapool. Yellowknife’s Leela Gilday then graced the stage with her emotionally-charged songs before giving way to Chadian a cappella masters H’Sao, who took the audience on an incredible journey. Closing out the night, Tanya Tagaq performed a shortened version of her mind-blowing Nanook of the North show, which must be seen to be believed. All in all, the night was great, with over 100 industry professionals and even more fans attending the showcase.
On Sunday, Mundial presented two showcases at the Midtown Hilton as part of the APAP musical showcase activities. H’Sao absolutely lit up the room, and Alejandra Ribera brought the house down.
Mundial won the crowd over on Monday evening at Le Poisson Rouge with a showcase featuring Canada’s best world music artists. In collaboration with Eye For Talent at Le Poisson Rouge, we presented Alejandra Ribera, who mesmerized the crowd with her multilingual songbook, and Jaron Freeman-Fox, whose energetic brand of progressive folk wowed the audience. Check out their performances below:
We’re heading back on the road next week, going to in Toronto for CAPACOA at Lula Lounge on Thursday Jan. 23.
